What To Expect When You Come For A Treatment

Diagnosis

I will ask you detailed questions about the complaint you have come with. I will also take a full medical history to gain a fuller picture of your overall health and possible causes of your main complaint. Iwill take your pulse on each wrist to assess its quality and may also ask to look at your tongue as this can provide useful clues to the cause of your condition.

Sickness and health are understood in terms of the condition of the whole person. For this reason your diagnosis is based on all symptoms collectively.

Your Acupuncture Treatment

I will then select a number of points for treatment. Many of the commonly used Acupuncture points are located on the limbs, below the elbows and knees. Thus much of the treatment will take place on these points regardless of the location of the symptoms.  Therefore, many treatments will only require the removal of shoes and socks.

The needles used are small and very fine. All needles are sterile and disposable.

Your initial consultation and treatment will take around an hour. Subsequent treatments take 45 minutes.

After Your Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture points stay active for some time after they have been stimulated and the treatment continues long after you have left the clinic. If possible it is best to have a quiet day or evening following your treatment.

The Length of your Acupuncture Treatment

Some conditions respond immediately to Acupuncture whilst others take a good deal longer. Generally, the longer you have had a condition then the more treatments you will require.

Initially you can expect to come weekly for 4 to 6 treatments by which time we can assess how well Acupuncture is working for you and discuss whether further treatment is recommended.
